Depending on the state of your carpets, they should be cleaned at least once every six to 12 months.

Ryans Carpet Cleaning owner Mark Suttle said even if carpets looked clean, it was important to have them steam-cleaned for hygienic purposes.

``People are not only constantly walking on their carpets, they lie on them to watch television and children especially love to play on carpet," he said.

``Considering this then it's extremely important that they are cleaned thoroughly.

``Taking great pride in offering a professional service we use the latest cleaning equipment from the US which allows us to do the job quicker and more efficiently."

To ensure the company was ready for any job it had three trucks complete with cleaning equipment on hand as well as two extras for the peak season from September to January.

Mr Suttle, who has 17 years' experience in the industry, set up Ryans Carpet Cleaning eight years ago.

He said as a member of the Australian Carpet Cleaning Institute the business was qualified to steam or dry clean any home or office in the Illawarra.

Mr Suttle said Ryans Carpet Cleaning also did restoration work and was available to do the clean-up and preparation work for homes damaged by fire and water.
